Basehor, KS (August 23, 2025) – On Saturday night, August 23, a police pursuit in Leavenworth County ended in a serious crash at the intersection of North 147th Street and Parallel Road in Basehor. The collision was reported at approximately 9:35 p.m. after a fleeing vehicle struck a dirt embankment. Multiple people were injured in the incident.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2008 Honda Accord driven by 22-year-old Johmelo M. Mapp-Jenkins of Leavenworth was being pursued by law enforcement when it failed to yield at a stop sign. The vehicle crossed the intersection and collided with a dirt embankment on the south side of the roadway. Mapp-Jenkins sustained suspected serious injuries and was transported to the University of Kansas Medical Center. Two passengers, identified as 27-year-old Melissa K. Howard and 42-year-old Andrew M. Jones, both of Leavenworth, were also injured. Howard was taken to Providence Medical Center, while Jones was transported to KU Medical Center. Emergency responders closed the scene while providing aid, and the crash remains under investigation.
