Cherryvale, KS (June 21, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash occurred late Saturday morning, June 21, at approximately 11:26 a.m. on U.S. Highway 169 northbound, about one mile south of Cherryvale in Montgomery County. The collision involved a pickup truck and a passenger car, resulting in multiple injuries, including two individuals with suspected serious injuries.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 33-year-old Joshua Caleb Allen of Coffeyville was driving a 2011 Ford Super Duty F250 and was initially stopped on the northbound shoulder of U169. Allen attempted to turn left onto County Road 4800 but entered the path of a northbound 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. The Camaro, driven by 21-year-old Brianna Elena Lopez-Hernandez of Pittsburg, struck the pickup in the northbound lanes. Lopez-Hernandez and her passenger, 21-year-old Jason Alexes Morales, also of Pittsburg, both suffered suspected serious injuries and were transported to Labette County Health. A third occupant in the Camaro, 1-year-old Luz Ximena Morales-Lopez, was properly restrained in a car seat and did not sustain any injuries. Allen was uninjured in the crash. The Camaro was removed from the scene by Dave’s Body Shop and taken to Independence. No major road closures were reported, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Our thoughts are with Brianna Lopez-Hernandez, Jason Morales, and their families during this difficult time. We wish them strength and a full recovery.

Intersection Crashes and Failure to Yield in Kansas

Cherryvale, KS Crash on U169 Injures Three, Including Two Seriously

Failure to yield at intersections is a leading cause of serious injury crashes in Kansas. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) notes that more than 50% of all crashes resulting in injuries or fatalities occur at or near intersections. When a driver misjudges a turn or fails to see oncoming traffic—especially on highways like U169—there is little time for other motorists to react, often leading to high-impact collisions. The risk is even greater when safety restraints are not used.

If you or someone you love has been injured in a crash caused by another driver’s failure to yield, it is important to understand your legal rights. You may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, pain and suffering, and other damages. The experienced attorneys at Bretz Injury Law are here to help you every step of the way.
