His vehicle entered the intersection and collided with a westbound 2023 Peterbilt semi-truck driven by 66-year-old Guadalupe Rodriguez, also of Ulysses. The Kansas Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
Our thoughts are with Logan Spooner and his family, and we wish him a full and speedy recovery.
Intersection Crashes and Right-of-Way Violations in Kansas
Intersections are high-risk areas for vehicle crashes, particularly when drivers fail to obey traffic controls or misjudge the speed of cross traffic. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) estimates that over 50% of injury or fatality crashes occur at or near intersections. Failing to yield the right of way is one of the most common contributing factors in these incidents. In rural areas like Gray County, higher speeds and limited visibility at intersections increase the severity of crashes.
