Head-On Collisions and Their Dangers in Kansas

Head-on collisions, though less frequent than other types of accidents, often result in more serious injuries or fatalities due to the direct impact involved. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), while head-on crashes make up only about 2% of all traffic accidents, they account for over 10% of driving-related deaths. These crashes commonly occur when a vehicle drifts out of its lane, which can happen due to distraction, fatigue, or sudden medical emergencies. In Kansas, rural highways like K14 are especially susceptible due to high speeds and limited median barriers.
