Scott City, KS (April 23, 2025) – On Wednesday afternoon, a three-vehicle crash with reported injuries occurred at the intersection of Main Street and 12th Street in Scott City. The incident was reported at approximately 5:27 p.m. and involved a pickup truck, a motorcycle, and another passenger vehicle. The crash resulted in injuries to two individuals, including one with suspected serious injuries. No fatalities were reported.
According to authorities, the collision occurred when a 2010 Chevy Silverado, traveling west on 12th Street, failed to yield at a stop sign and entered the intersection. The Silverado was struck on the passenger side near the rear door by a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling south on Main Street. The force of the impact caused the Silverado to veer into a stationary 2018 Ford F-150 that was stopped at the intersection, striking it on the front driver’s side. Emergency responders transported the 16-year-old male driver of the Silverado and the 27-year-old male motorcyclist to Scott County Hospital. The motorcyclist sustained suspected serious injuries, while the teenage driver reportedly suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Ford F-150, a 38-year-old woman, was not injured. The intersection remained partially obstructed during the emergency response. Authorities have not confirmed whether the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time. An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full and swift recovery.
Failure to Yield Accidents in Kansas
Failure to yield is a common cause of motor vehicle accidents at intersections and is especially dangerous when motorcycles are involved. According to data from the Kansas Department of Transportation, failure to yield right of way is one of the top contributing factors in injury crashes across the state. Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable due to the lack of protection compared to other vehicles, and collisions at intersections often lead to severe outcomes. Nationwide, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that intersections account for roughly one-fifth of all traffic fatalities, with many involving right-of-way violations. It’s a stark reminder of how critical it is for drivers to stay attentive and obey traffic control devices at all times.
