Topeka, KS (May 30, 2025) – A fatal two-vehicle collision occurred on Friday afternoon, May 30, at approximately 2:01 p.m. on U.S. Highway 24 Westbound near milepost 367, roughly a quarter mile east of Goodyear Road in Shawnee County. The crash involved a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe and a 2020 Kia Forte. Tragically, both drivers involved sustained fatal injuries as a result of the incident.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by 22-year-old Anya Joann Turner of Topeka, was traveling eastbound when it veered off the roadway to the right. Turner overcorrected to the left, causing the vehicle to cross all eastbound lanes, travel through the median, and enter westbound traffic. The vehicle then collided head-on with the westbound Kia Forte, driven by 32-year-old Andria Nikkole Starr, also of Topeka. Emergency responders pronounced Turner dead at the scene, and her body was transported to Forensic Medical. Starr was taken to Stormont Vail Hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. Authorities confirmed that both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. The roadway experienced temporary closures as officials cleared the scene and conducted an investigation. The Kansas Highway Patrol is continuing to examine the events leading up to the crash.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the families and loved ones of Anya Turner and Andria Starr. We extend our condolences during this difficult time and hope for comfort and healing for all affected by this tragic loss.
