Wichita, KS (April 21, 2025) – On Monday night, April 21, a serious two-vehicle crash occurred around 8:22 p.m. on northbound Interstate 235 near mile marker 1.3 in South Wichita. Authorities confirmed that multiple individuals were injured after an SUV crossed the median into oncoming traffic and struck another vehicle head-on.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2007 Volvo XC9 SUV, driven by 33-year-old Lanae B. Taylor of Wichita, was traveling northbound when it crossed the median for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a 2019 Ford F-250 traveling southbound. Taylor and her two passengers—27-year-old Jaquellin D. Holland and 26-year-old Manuel I. Trujillo, both also from Wichita—were all transported to St. Francis Hospital with suspected serious injuries. Trujillo was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Ford truck, 59-year-old Lyle E. Dewalt of Andover, was taken to Wesley Medical Center with suspected serious injuries. Emergency services responded quickly to the scene, and both vehicles were removed by Happy Hooker towing. The highway experienced temporary closures during the response. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and more details will be released as they become available.
Our thoughts are with the victims of this crash and their families during this difficult time. We wish all those injured a full and speedy recovery.
Wrong-Way Crashes in Kansas
Wrong-way collisions, while relatively rare, are among the most dangerous types of crashes due to the high speeds and direct impact involved. According to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), wrong-way crashes result in fatalities 12 to 27 times more frequently than other types of accidents. Most of these incidents occur on highways and are often caused by driver impairment, confusion, or distraction. The outcome is often catastrophic, with a high likelihood of serious injury or death for those involved.
