Wichita, KS (August 6, 2025) – On Wednesday morning, August 6, a three-vehicle crash resulted in injuries on K-96 westbound near mile marker 291.7 in Sedgwick County. The collision occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m. and involved a rear-end impact when one vehicle failed to slow in time for traffic ahead. Two drivers sustained injuries and were reportedly in pain following the crash.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2012 Buick Verano driven by Mary Ann Morrison, 54, of Wichita, was traveling in the far outside lane behind a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta and a 2015 BMW X5. Morrison’s vehicle struck the rear of the Volkswagen, which then collided with the rear of the BMW. Elizabeth Florence, 25, of Council Grove, the driver of the Volkswagen, was transported to St. Francis Hospital with a complaint of pain. Morrison also reported possible injuries. Victoria Andrews, 31, of Wichita, the driver of the BMW, and a one-year-old male passenger, Patrick Andrews, were not injured. Emergency responders were called to the scene, and the Buick was towed by Miller’s Tow & Recovery. Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash.

Rear-end collisions caused by following too closely are a frequent cause of roadway accidents in Kansas and across the country. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that nearly 29% of all car crashes are rear-end collisions. These crashes often occur because of distracted driving, speeding, or failure to maintain a safe following distance. Even a brief lapse in attention can lead to severe consequences, especially in congested traffic conditions like those seen on K-96.
