Lawrence, KS (March 19, 2024) – A woman was hurt after being hit by a car while walking her dog in the Lawrence area on Monday, March 18. The incident took place at the corner of 23rd Street and Barker Avenue early that morning at around 7:52 a.m. Local reports revealed that the 74-year-old woman was walking her dog when she was struck by a gray Dodge sedan. 

The driver involved in the crash fled the scene without rendering aid. Emergency responders were rushed to the scene to provide aid to the involved parties. The injured pedestrian was sent to a trauma center in critical condition. The dog was killed in the accident. Local authorities are currently seeking more information regarding the identity of the at-fault driver. No further information has been provided at this time. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is in the hands of local law enforcement officials.
