St Francis, KS - Two Hurt in Two-Vehicle Crash on KS-27

St Francis, KS (February 26, 2024) – Two people were injured following a car accident in the St. Francis area on Friday night, February 23. The accident occurred on KS-27 in Cheyenne County near the US-36 junction that evening at around 10 p.m. Local reports indicated that a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 60-year-old Beth Zweygardt St. Francis was headed southbound at the time of the crash. 

A southbound 2001 Acura driven by 27-year-old Octavio Ruiz Wray, CO attempted to pass the Jeep when the Jeep veered and hit the back of the Acura. After the impact, the Acura began to drift sideways in front of the Grand Cherokee. Zweygardt continued traveling southbound, where she ran a stop sign, crashed into a ditch, and collided head-on with a tree. 

Both drivers were transported to Cheyenne County Hospital by ambulance. No further information on the accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is being handled by local law enforcement officials. More information will be provided as it continues.
