Topeka, KS (April 8, 2024) – There were confirmed injuries after a car crash outside of Topeka on Saturday, April 6. The collision was reported around 6:55 p.m. on Interstate 335 near mile marker 167 in Shawnee County. Local reports reveal that a 2016 Honda Odyssey driven by 37-year-old Sameera Mahmood of Wichita was traveling southbound on the interstate when the rear passenger tire experienced a blowout. 

This caused the vehicle to cross both lanes and hit a concrete barrier wall. Five of the occupants traveling in the minivan were injured in the crash, and all were transported to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka for treatment. The injured parties were later identified as 43-year-old Yasmin Hussain, 19-year-old Ayan Hafid, 59-year-old Halima Hogan, 43-year-old Leila Omer, and 22-year-old Fatuma Hussain, all from Wichita. No further information on the accident is currently available at this time. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
