Topeka, KS (June 11, 2024) – A passenger was injured after a two-vehicle crash in the Topeka area on Monday, June 10. The accident was reported near the Interstate 70 and Interstate 470 interchange early that morning around 7:55 a.m. Local reports revealed that a 2023 Dodge Durango was traveling east on Interstate 70 when the driver tried to merge onto the I-470 exit ramp.
The Durango hit an eastbound 2016 GMC Sierra as it was exiting Interstate 470. The driver of the Durango, 24-year-old Brenden Christian Oakley of Colorado, was not hurt in the crash. A passenger in the vehicle, 22-year-old Lena Marie Abeyta of Colorado, was transported by ambulance to Stormont Vail Hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. The driver of the GMC, 44-year-old Michael Robert Munson of Topeka, and the passenger, 26-year-old Christian Adam Vaughan of Chester, VA, were not hurt in the collision. No further information on the incident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
