Valley Falls, KS (May 24, 2024) – There were multiple injuries reported after a collision in the Valley Falls area on Thursday, May 23. The incident was reported that afternoon around 2:48 p.m. at the crossing of K-4 and Edwards Road. Emergency crews were quickly dispatched to the scene to provide the necessary aid.
Local sources indicated that a 2013 Hyundai Elantra was traveling southbound on K-4 when it rear-ended a 2016 Ford Edge that was stopped waiting to make a turn onto Edwards Road. The 15-year-old Valley Falls resident driving the Hyundai was transported by ambulance to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka for the treatment of sustained injuries. Two other passengers in the Elantra, 43-year-old Alicia A. Burch and 20-year-old Gena Burch both of Valley Falls, were transported to the same hospital for treatment. Burch was reportedly in serious condition. There was a juvenile in the vehicle, but no information was provided on the occupant.
The driver of the Ford, 72-year-old James Braum also from Valley Falls, was not hurt in the crash. No further information on the incident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is being handled by local law enforcement officials.
