Nortonville, KS - Two Hurt in Head-on Collision on US-59

Nortonville, KS (June 6, 2024) – There were reported injuries after a head-on crash outside of Nortonville on Wednesday, June 5. The accident was reported on US-59 near mile marker 194.5 that night around 5:05 p.m. Local sources indicated that 24-year-old Emmanuel I. Nnuekwe of Charleston, IL was traveling north in a 2022 Toyota Corolla at the time of the crash. 

Nnuekwe reportedly went left of center and into the path of an oncoming 2020 Kenworth T-680 operated by 62-year-old Darrel Wayne Johnson of St. Joseph, MO. The two vehicles collided head-on. The Corolla came to a rest in a nearby ditch, while the Kenworth entered a ditch and rolled into an embankment before hitting a power pole. Emergency crews were rushed to the scene, and Nnuekwe was transported to the Kansas University Medical Center for treatment. Johnson was transferred by ambulance to Amberwell Atchison Hospital. No updates on the conditions of the involved parties are currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the incident is in progress.
