Jefferson, KS - Motorcyclist Dies in Crash at US-59 & K-16

Jefferson, KS (June 6, 2024) – A Holton man was killed after a two-vehicle collision in the Jefferson area on Wednesday, June 5. The deadly accident was reported at the intersection of US-59 and K-16 that afternoon around 4 p.m. It was reported that 59-year-old Michael J. Schecher of Holton was traveling northbound on a 2022 Harley Davidson motorcycle at the time of the crash. 

Schecher attempted to pass a 2022 GMC Savanna van driven by 29-year-old John G. Morris of Topeka. The van was slowing to make a left turn when it hit the rider. Emergency crews were rushed to the scene to provide aid to the involved parties. Schecher suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene before being transported to Barnett Family Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. No other injuries were reported in the collision. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly crash is being handled by local law enforcement officials, and more information will be provided as it continues.
