Valley Center, KS (June 4, 2024) – A passenger was injured after a rear-end collision in the Valley Center area on Monday, June 3. The incident was reported on Interstate 135 SB, near mile marker five that afternoon, around 4:08 p.m. Local reports indicated that 20-year-old Ashley Yepez-Buendia of Wichita was headed southbound in a 2016 Chrysler 200 at the time of the crash.
It was later reported that Yepez-Buendia experienced a medical episode and crashed into the rear of a 2022 Hyundai Tucson, driven by 51-year-old Walter Michael Schofill of Valdosta, GA. Emergency responders were rushed to the scene to provide aid to the involved parties. A passenger in the Hyundai, a 17-year-old Valdosta, GA, resident, was hurt and transported by ambulance to Wesley Medical Center for the treatment of sustained injuries. No further information on the incident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
