Wakarusa, KS (May 23, 2024) – A woman was hospitalized after a two-vehicle collision in the Wakarusa area on Wednesday, May 22. The accident occurred that evening at the crossing of US-59 and N. 1200 Road late that evening around 9 p.m. Local reports revealed that a 2012 Acura and a 2019 Buick Envision collided at the scene. 

It was later reported that the 30-year-old Lawrence woman driving the Acura entered the intersection with a red light attempting to turn northbound onto 1200 Road when she collided with the Buick, which had a green light at the time of the crash. Emergency crews were quickly dispatched to provide the necessary aid. The driver of the Acura was taken to a Topeka-area hospital to treat sustained injuries. Three juveniles in the Acura, the 87-year-old Baldwin City man driving the Buick, and a passenger in the Buick were all evaluated and provided aid at the scene by attending medical personnel, no other hospitalizations were reported. The local law enforcement officials have an ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident
