Anderson County, KS (July 8, 2025) – On Tuesday evening, July 8, a two-vehicle collision occurred at approximately 5:37 p.m. on U.S. Highway 169 northbound at Neosho Road in Anderson County. The crash involved a semi-truck and a pickup truck and resulted in at least one reported injury.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2007 Kenworth semi-truck driven by 57-year-old Kuldip Singh of Olathe was traveling northbound behind a 1994 GMC pickup truck. The GMC, driven by 62-year-old Karen S. Whitcomb of Centerville, began slowing to make a left turn onto Neosho Road. Singh attempted to pass and struck the pickup truck during the maneuver. Whitcomb was transported to Anderson County Hospital with suspected minor injuries. Singh was uninjured in the crash. The pickup was removed by R & W Towing. The crash is under investigation by Trooper K252, and more details may emerge as the investigation continues.

Our thoughts are with Karen Whitcomb and those impacted by this crash. We wish her a swift and complete recovery.

Risks of Unsafe Passing on Rural Kansas Highways

Improper passing is a frequent cause of serious vehicle collisions, especially on rural two-lane highways like U.S. 169. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), unsafe passing accounts for a significant percentage of fatal crashes each year. Attempting to pass a slowing vehicle without ensuring it is safe or legal can lead to head-on collisions or side-impact crashes—both of which carry a high risk of injury or death. Drivers are reminded to exercise patience and caution, particularly in rural areas where visibility and passing zones may be limited.

If you or someone you love has been injured in a crash due to another driver’s reckless behavior, it’s crucial to act quickly to protect your rights.
