Bourbon County, KS (September 13, 2025) – On Saturday evening, September 13, a two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of 180th Street and Hackberry Road in Bourbon County. The collision happened around 5:25 p.m. and resulted in multiple reported injuries.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2013 Hyundai driven by 19-year-old James S. Schofield of Irving, Texas, was traveling east on Hackberry Road when it entered the intersection and was struck by a northbound 2019 RAM 1500. The driver of the Hyundai and three passengers were not injured, but an 18-year-old passenger, John A. Denton of Irving, TX, was transported to Freeman Fort Scott Hospital with suspected minor injuries. The driver of the RAM, 58-year-old Ladonna L. Blanken of Pittsburg, KS, was also taken to Freeman Fort Scott Hospital for evaluation after reporting pain. Two additional occupants in the RAM, identified as Linda K. Farmer, 78, and Douglas A. Farmer, 45, both of Fort Scott, were uninjured. Emergency crews responded to the scene, and both vehicles were towed. Authorities confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families during this difficult time. We hope for their full and speedy recovery.

Intersection-Related Crashes in Kansas

Intersection crashes are among the most common and dangerous types of roadway accidents. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) reports that about 40% of all crashes in the United States occur at intersections, often due to drivers failing to yield, running stop signs, or misjudging another vehicle’s speed. These accidents frequently lead to serious injuries or fatalities because vehicles typically collide at perpendicular angles, increasing the risk of severe impact. Drivers are urged to remain cautious, slow down, and ensure intersections are completely clear before proceeding.
