Iuka, KS (July 26, 2024) – A Great Bend woman sustained serious injuries after a trucking accident in the Iuka area on Thursday, July 25. The collision took place that afternoon around 1:11 p.m. on US-281. Local reports indicated that a 71-year-old Great Bend man was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox headed southbound on the highway as a 72-year-old Iuka man was traveling south in a 1995 Freightliner pulling a trailer.
Local reports revealed that the Equinox was making a turn onto Summer Street when it was hit from behind by the Freightliner. The Chevy came to a stop in Summer, and the Freightliner stopped facing southeast in the middle of US-281. The driver of the Equinox was hurt, and his passenger, a 91-year-old Great Bend woman, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital in serious condition. No other injuries were reported in the accident. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is being managed by local law enforcement officials, and more updates will be provided as it continues.
