Kansas City, KS - Two Injured in Toyota Camry Crash at I-35 & 18th St Expy

Kansas City, KS (June 3, 2024) – Two people were injured following a single-vehicle accident in the Kansas City area on Sunday, June 2. The accident took place at the intersection of Interstate 35 NB and 18th Street late that evening, around 11:06 p.m. Local reports indicated that 21-year-old Arely Salgado-Ibarra of Shawnee was traveling northbound on the interstate in a 2008 Toyota Camry at the time of the crash.

For unknown reasons, the Camry left the roadway to the right where it hit a signpost. The Toyota re-entered the road, crossed all the lanes, and exited the road to the left. The Camry hit a barrier wall and rode the wall before flipping onto its side in the first lane. Emergency crews were rushed to the scene to provide aid to the involved parties. Both Salgado-Ibarra and their passenger, 20-year-old Thaiz Gamboa of Kansas City, were transported by ambulance to the Kansas University Medical Center for the treatment of sustained injuries. No updates on the conditions of the involved parties have been provided. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the incident is in progress.
