Lewis, KS (June 16, 2025) – On Monday, June 16, a two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 11:54 a.m. at the intersection of 180th Avenue and U.S. Highway 50, about one mile south of Lewis in Edwards County. The accident involved a southbound GMC Canyon and an eastbound Saturn. Three individuals were injured, including one who sustained suspected serious injuries. All were transported to Edwards County Hospital for treatment.
According to authorities, the GMC, driven by 59-year-old Ross T. Wolfe of Kinsley, failed to yield at the intersection, colliding with the eastbound Saturn driven by 36-year-old Baltazar R. Morales of Booker, Texas. The vehicles came to rest in the southeast ditch. Wolfe and his 67-year-old passenger, Reed D. Wolfe of Lewis, both suffered suspected minor injuries. Morales, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was reported to have sustained suspected serious injuries. Emergency responders arrived on scene, and the wreckage was cleared by B&B Wrecker. No road closures were announced at the time. The Kansas Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their loved ones. We extend our hopes for their swift and complete recovery during this difficult time.
Failure to Yield Accidents in Kansas
Failure to yield remains one of the leading causes of intersection-related accidents in Kansas and across the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), thousands of crashes each year are caused by drivers who fail to obey right-of-way laws, leading to significant injuries and fatalities. These types of accidents often result in side-impact collisions, which can be particularly dangerous when vehicles are traveling at highway speeds. Lack of seatbelt use, as noted in this incident, only increases the likelihood of serious injury.
