Topeka, KS (July 28, 2025) – On Monday, July 28, a two-vehicle crash occurred around 5:00 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 70 near mile marker 198.3 in Douglas County. The accident involved a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2025 Peterbilt truck. One individual sustained injuries and was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, both vehicles were traveling eastbound on I-70 approaching a work zone transition area when the driver of the Peterbilt, identified as 44-year-old Maurice Reynolds of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, changed lanes into the path of the Chevrolet Silverado. The driver of the Silverado, 29-year-old Andrew Larsen of Topeka, attempted to avoid the crash but lost control, leaving the roadway and striking a barrier wall. Reynolds was unharmed, while Larsen complained of pain and was taken to the hospital. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. The crash briefly disrupted traffic in the area, and the incident remains under investigation by local authorities.
Our thoughts are with Andrew Larsen as he recovers from his injuries, and we hope for a full and speedy recovery.
Work Zone Safety on Kansas Highways
Accidents near work zones are a significant concern for drivers in Kansas. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that work zone crashes have steadily increased over the years, with many of these accidents being caused by distracted driving, speeding, or sudden lane changes in construction zones. Drivers need to be especially cautious when approaching these areas to avoid potential collisions and ensure the safety of all road users.
