Topeka, KS (July 29, 2025) – On Tuesday afternoon, July 29, a two-vehicle crash occurred on the Kansas Turnpike at mile marker 167.9 southbound near Topeka. The incident took place around 3:12 p.m. and involved a commercial Freightliner truck and a maintenance vehicle parked in the left lane. One person was injured in the collision and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to the crash report, a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia was traveling southbound in the left lane when it failed to yield for a stationary highway maintenance vehicle and rear-ended it. The maintenance truck, a 2017 International, was stopped in the left lane for authorized work at the time. The driver of the Freightliner, a 31-year-old man from Fresno, California, was reportedly wearing a seatbelt and did not sustain any injuries. The driver of the parked vehicle, identified as Ronnie Bell, 58, of Wichita, Kansas, suffered suspected minor injuries and was transported to Stormont Vail Hospital. The crash caused temporary traffic disruption as emergency crews responded to the scene. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and additional details may be released as the investigation progresses.
