Whitewater, KS (September 25, 2025) – On Thursday morning, September 25, a two-vehicle crash was reported at the intersection of K-196 and Meadowlark Road, about four miles east of Whitewater. The accident occurred around 8:12 a.m. and resulted in at least one confirmed injury.
At this time, reports indicate that a 2010 Hyundai Veracruz was attempting a left turn onto Meadowlark Road from K-196 when it was struck by a westbound 2014 Ford Explorer. The driver of the Explorer, a 37-year-old man from Burns, was transported to Wesley Medical Center with suspected minor injuries. The driver of the Hyundai, a 16-year-old from Whitewater, was not hurt. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Authorities have listed the crash as a hit-and-run, and the Kansas Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver and their family at this time. We hope for a complete and speedy recovery.
Hit-and-Run Accidents in Kansas
Hit-and-run collisions remain a serious safety issue on Kansas roadways. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, hit-and-run crashes account for more than 2,000 deaths each year in the United States, with pedestrians being the most common victims. When a driver flees the scene, injured parties face delays in receiving medical aid and justice, while investigators face challenges in holding at-fault drivers accountable. In Kansas, like elsewhere, leaving the scene of an accident is a serious criminal offense.
