De Soto, KS - Two Hurt in Fiery Rollover Accident on K-10

De Soto, KS (February 24, 2024) – A fiery crash outside of the De Soto area on Wednesday, February 21, resulted in confirmed injuries. The accident took place on K-10 west of K-7 that afternoon at around 1:42 p.m. Local reports indicated that a 2016 Dodge Challenger was headed eastbound when it side-swiped a 2014 Mazda 5 traveling in the left lane. 

The impact caused both vehicles to overturn. The Dodge caught fire, and the Mazda rolled into a ditch. The driver of the Mazda, later identified as 70-year-old Katharine A. Hirt of Prairie Village, was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for the treatment of sustained injuries. 

A passenger in the Mazda, later identified as 90-year-old Mildred Joann Ketter of Olathe, was also transported to the hospital for treatment. The other driver, later identified as identified as 25-year-old Tarik Franklyn Harris of Kansas City, MO, and his passenger were not hurt in the collision. 

There was also a juvenile in the Dodge, but no additional information has been provided. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is being managed by local law enforcement officials. More information will be provided as it continues.
