Wichita, KS (April 1, 2025) – A fatal two-vehicle crash occurred early Tuesday morning at approximately 5:45 a.m. on northbound I-135 at milepost 9.8, near the exit ramp to North Hydraulic Avenue in Sedgwick County. The accident resulted in the death of one driver.
According to authorities, the crash happened when a 2006 Pontiac Torrent traveling northbound on I-135 struck the rear of a 2014 Hyundai Elantra, which was exiting to North Hydraulic Avenue. Following the collision, the Pontiac continued traveling northbound, crossing multiple lanes of traffic before striking the inside barrier wall. The vehicle then veered across the lanes again, hitting the outside barrier wall in a construction zone. It ultimately came to rest on its wheels, facing north in lanes two and three. The driver of the Hyundai was able to pull over onto the shoulder safely.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene and determined that the driver of the Pontiac, identified as 39-year-old Jeffery T. Galbreath of Wichita, Kansas, sustained fatal injuries. He was transported to the Sedgwick County Forensic Science Center. Authorities confirmed that Galbreath was properly restrained at the time of the crash. The driver of the Hyundai, 29-year-old Pamela V. Jean Reyes of Wichita, was uninjured.
