Wichita, KS (June 2, 2024) – Two people were hurt after a single-vehicle accident in the Wichita area on Saturday, June 1. The accident took place on Interstate 135 NB near US-54 late that night around 9:24 p.m. Local reports revealed that a 2008 Honda Pilot with three occupants was traveling northbound on the interstate outside of the third lane.
It was reported that an unknown vehicle entering from Lincoln Street attempted to change lanes toward the Honda. The driver of the Pilot, 19-year-old Leonardo Paez of Wichita, had to conduct an evasive maneuver to avoid being hit by the other motorist. Paez lost control of the SUV and hit an inside barrier wall. Emergency responders were quickly dispatched to render the necessary aid. Two passengers in the Pilot, 32-year-old Carolina Paez, and 53-year-old Mayela Peaz, also from Wichita, were transported to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. No further information on the accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
