Fredonia, KS (June 20, 2024) – Two people were injured after a collision in the Fredonia area on Wednesday, June 19. The incident took place on US-400 near K-39 that afternoon around 3:50 p.m. Local reports revealed that 20-year-old Zachary R. Leiker of Pittsburg was traveling southbound on the highway in a 2015 Ford F-150 pickup truck.
For unknown reasons, Leiker crossed the center line and into oncoming traffic. A 2016 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 73-year-old Marian K. Rice of Arden, NC. Emergency responders were rushed to the scene to provide aid to the involved parties. Leiker was transported by ambulance to Freeman Hospital in Joplin for treatment. Rice was hospitalized at St. Francis Health System in Tulsa. No further information on the incident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
