Kansas City, KS (August 17, 2024) – On Friday, August 16, a driver was injured after a two-vehicle collision in the Kansas City area. The crash was reported on Interstate 635 SB north of K-32 that afternoon, around 1:04 p.m. Local reports revealed that 50-year-old Steven R. Fevurly of Lansing was traveling southbound in a 2023 Freightliner tractor-trailer in lane one as 76-year-old Philip A. Gicalone of Kansas City was headed north in a 2023 Hyundai Sonata in lane two.
For unknown reasons, the Freightliner made an improper lane change and hit the side of the Hyundai. The impact caused the Sonata to spin out and hit a nearby wall. Emergency crews were rushed to the scene to provide aid to the involved parties. Gicalone was injured and transported to the Kansas University Medical Center by ambulance for treatment. The Hyundai was damaged and had to be towed from the scene. No further information on the crash is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is in progress.
